Didier Laloy presents his new spectacular project
For many centuries mankind has been dreaming and building machines, also Leonardo da Vinci wanted to fly. Together with Belgian avantgarde composer and sound inventor Walter Hus, Didier Laloy in his latest adventure takes mechanical music to its extremes. BELEM, the success duo with Didier Laloy on accordion and Kathy Adam on cello, meets a mechanical orchestra of the Belgian brand DECAP, programmed and digitally operated by Walter Hus and remindung us of the historical ancestors of the jukebox that were extremely popular (not only) in Belgium and Northern France. The organs, the “Mekanics”, sing like little birds, then again they sound like a whole orchestra, a drumset and an accordion play alone as if by magic. The result is breathtaking – a unique sound between popular, contemporary and film music with fellinian flavour. Belem&The Mekanics is an extraordinary experience that will take you far beyond a concert, submerging the audience in the centre of a majestic sound swirl. The album Belem & The Mekanics was released in November 2017 and presented in two sold out and enthusiastically acclaimed concert series in Brussels and Paris.

Bosnian Billie Holiday – Sevdah Meets Jazz
Amira Medunjanin, acclaimed singer, humanitarian and worldwide ambassador for the culture and music of her native Bosnia-Herzegovina and the wider Balkan region, presents her new album DAMAR. As in all her previous productions she draws deep from the wellspring of Sevdah, the “beating heart” of Bosnian music, with revivifying ancestral Bosnian songs, whilst for the first time introducing new compositions to her artistic palette. A particular emphasis on acoustic guitar brings a subtle Iberian piquancy to DAMAR, and once again the great Serbian pianist Bojan Z bestows his musical and production skills upon the endeavour. With a quintet that suggests everything from flamenco to contemporary jazz – a flourish of guitar here, a provocative piano solo there – Amira transforms tradition into a powerful emotional statement, one that suggests her homeland but is not limited to it.
“Bosnian Billie Holiday” (Gart Cartwright) was born in Sarajevo at the time when the popularity of traditional music in former Yugoslavia was at high tide, and Sevdah held a special place for her. The Sevdalinke (sevdah songs) she learned from her mother were the most beautiful of songs. Her fascination with the oral tradition of Bosnia and Herzegovina led her to devote herself to creating a unique voice within Sevdah to explore its expressive capacity to the full.
In 2017 Amira Medunjanin was selected into the Top Ten of World Music Divas by the British magazine Songlines.

Poetic Yugo Rock with Parisian Charme
As many other important encounters this was a spontaneous one: Croatian guitarist and song poet Branko Galoić and Portuguese guitar virtuoso Francisco Córdovil met at Chez Adel, a typical artist bar in Paris. During a commom jam session they gelled immediately – feeling an almost magical southern connection between two musicians that for many years had been living far from their home countries. Branko’s Balkan roots und Francisco’s Iberian influence blended into an explosive mix enchanting their Paris audience.
Last summer Branko Galoić and his SKAKAVAC ORKESTAR toured successfully at festivals in Germany, Austria, Italy and Hungary. Starting in Kehl tomorrow March 31, the duo will make their debut in Germany and Austria to promote their first album ONE WITH THE WIND (CD Baby).

A special “accordion summit” will happen on January 11, 2017 in Colombia: The fabulous Festival Internacional de Música in Cartagena de Indias has invited accordion gaúcho Renato Borghetti from Southern Brazil and jazz accordionist Vincent Peirani from Southern France to perform together with their ensembles and a youth orchestra from Cartagena. This open air world première will happen in front of the impressive backdrop of the Cartagena harbour and be transmitted live by Colombian Television.
GAITA NA FÁBRICA – Sounds from the Squeezebox Factory!
Renato Borghetti and his quartet present their new project „Accordion in the Factory“, produced entirely at the FÁBRICA DE GAITEIROS, the cultural space where Borghetti is developing his new social project. It is a magical, inspiring place, where children and young adults can develop their love for music and at the same time learn how to play the accordion. The new album is the result of this very special atmosphere, offering a mature and contemporary twist on the typical rhythms from the south of Brazil. Milongas, Vaneiras, Xote and Chamamés, executed in an unconventional and almost classical formation: piano (Vitor Peixoto), flute/sax (Pedro Figueiredo) and acoustic guitar (Daniel Sá, also in charge of musical direction).

Just on time for his upcoming 60th birthday on July 22, Riccardo Tesi has plenty of reasons to be happy: Italian ethnomusicologist Neri Pollastri has recently presented his biography UNA VITA A BOTTONI. Concerts and tours with his main projects Banditaliana, Bella Ciao and the accordion quintet Samuraï will lead the Tuscan accordion master all across Europe during the summer months. And the special birthday news is that Riccardo’s present success story Bella Ciao featuring Lucilla Galeazzi and Elena Ledda has been selected for a showcase at this years WOMEX in Santiago de Compostela. Auguri maestro!
Amira Medunjanin, Ante Gelo (guitar) and Zvonimir Sestak (bass) are touring in Taiwan from March 30 to April 04 (see above the impressing National Theater and Concert Hall in Taipeh) – a premiere for the artists as well as the Taiwanese audience who for the first time will have the opportunity to listen to the magic of Bosnian Sevdah.
Watch out for the recent series of great releases by our artists: NAVEGAMUNDOS (Le Grand Fleuve/L’Autre Distribution) by Argentinian twin sisters Las Hermanas Caronni was released in November and will be presented at the upcoming Kulturbörse Freiburg and a small tour in Switzerland. KAZE (Abeat Records) is the fourth joint album of Japanese-Argentinian quartet Gaia Cuatro featuring renowned Italian guests such as Paolo Fresu and Solis String Quartet. ANGEL SONG (Silvox Records) by Croatian singer songwriter Branko Galoic was presented in Paris in December, and Portuguese accordion wizards Dancas Ocultas have ennobled their 25 years stage anniversary with AMPLITUDE (Uguru/Sony Portugal), a wonderful live recording of their concerts with Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras which will be released on February 12.
